NEWS | IHCL expands its presence in Odisha with a new SeleQtions Hotel

This is IHCL's fifth property across brands in the State of Odisha.

The Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has announced the signing of a new SeleQtions hotel in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Currently operating as The Crown, the hotel will be rebranded as an IHCL SeleQtions hotel.

This particular property is a partnership between IHCL and Sukhamaya Pvt Ltd.

Commenting on the signing, Suma Venkatesh, EVP - Real Estate & Development, IHCL, said, “The signing of this hotel further strengthens our presence in Odisha, which apart from its tourism potential, is fast becoming a key business hub. This new SeleQtions hotel is ideal for business travelers, while also offering distinctive experiences that embody the destination’s rich culture. We are delighted to partner with Sukhamaya Pvt Ltd for this project.”

The hotel, featuring 80 rooms, will undergo renovation and open under the SeleQtions brand in a more contemporary avatar. Strategically located in the heart of Bhubaneswar, the hotel is well suited for both business and leisure travelers. With a variety of dining options and large outdoor spaces, the hotel also offers multiple banqueting and meeting venues.

With the addition of this hotel, IHCL will have five hotels across brands in Odisha.

Leading Spanish hotel group partners with Phuket Villa Group to launch landmark resort

PHUKET, Thailand (Oct. 14, 2021) – Meliá Phuket Mai Khao, a 30-suite and 70-villa resort on eight acres of Phuket’s northwestern coastline overlooking the sky-blue Andaman Sea is slated to open in December.

Fronting Phuket’s longest stretch of sand, the resort on Mai Khao Beach is close to an array of attractions such as Sirinat National Park, Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation, and Wat Phra Thong temple. Phuket International Airport is a 15-minute drive.

Authorities plan to open Thailand to fully vaccinated tourists from countries deemed low-risk from November 1.

Launched by Meliá Hotels International and owned by Thailand’s leading residential real estate developer Phuket Villa Group, the five-star resort is part of a roll-out of the Meliá brand in key destinations across Thailand including Koh Samui, Chiang Mai and Bangkok.

The new resort’s saltwater swimming pools, private villa pools, a reflection pond with sunken seating areas, water gardens, vertical falls and irrigation mist evoke a restorative atmosphere. The overarching design pays tribute to contemporary aesthetics and traditional Thai touches.

The contemporary, light-filled and spacious Mediterranean-inspired accommodations comprise 30 one-bedroom suites and 70 one-bedroom villas that each cater for up to two adults and two children. All feature outdoor bathtubs, open-air showers and vast outdoor terraces.

The 78sqm suites are complemented by cabanas and the 85sqm one-bedroom villas have private plunge pools. Fifteen “wellness villas” feature an open-air Vitamin C shower, daily massage, ultrasonic essential oil diffuser, GermGuardian air purifier, Tempur-Pedic pillows, fit ball and yoga mat.

Meliá Phuket Mai Khao will explore a diverse culinary landscape from four outlets. Near the beach pool with its cabanas and sun lounges, chic Gaia Beach Club is “the place to be”. Drawing on Meliá’s Spanish origins, Gaia celebrates Spain’s famed gastronomy by serving Mediterranean and fusion cuisine from an open kitchen and an imaginative cocktail selection from a long bar.

Elegant all-day dining restaurant SASA specialises in Southeast Asian cuisine. A warm and intimate setting adorned with timber finishes, SASA offers casual fine dining by night. Elyxr Café serves freshly squeezed juices and locally brewed liquors.

Shaded by a broad spectrum of native plants, the resort's design deploys a neutral palette of colours as a complement to Mai Khao’s sandy shore. Its high ceilings, floor-to-roof glass panels and decorative metal screens take advantage of the natural surrounds and abundance of sunshine.

At 300sqm, Meliá’s signature YHI Spa is home to five treatment rooms. In addition to its extensive menu of massages, facials, body scrubs and wraps, spa therapists also provide poolside and in-villa treatments.

The fitness center is equipped with treadmills, ellipticals, exercise bikes, and weights machines. The kids club Kidsdom has workshops to keep youngsters entertained.

An idyllic venue for weddings and events, the resort’s conference facilities include a grand ballroom and two additional multi-function rooms. The resort’s event planners offer customized catering and mini mindfulness sessions.

The company continues to build on its growth momentum in India by                        strategically expanding the brand portfolio across key cities

New Delhi, October 2021:  IHG® Hotels & Resorts, one of the world’s leading hotel companies, has signed a management agreement with notable real estate developer, Dinesh Kumar Choudhary (HUF) for a new hotel – Holiday Inn Express & Suites Jaipur Karoli Bagh located at Gopalpura Byepass,  in the capital of Rajasthan. The brownfield hotel featuring 141 keys is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2023. 

Jaipur is the largest city in Rajasthan and one of the most popular leisure destinations, both for domestic and international travelers. It is an integral part of the Golden Triangle, a prominent tourist circuit connecting the national capital Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, and is also a preferred wedding destination in India. Cygnett Group of Hotels and Resorts plans to launch 9 new properties across multiple cities in different regions of India over the next six months. The new properties will come up in Dehradun, Jaipur (2 hotels), Bhiwadi, Dalhousie, Solan, Kolkata, Rajkot, and Goa.

The Cygnett Group is in the process of finalizing another 6 hotels, details of which will be announced soon. Like all Cygnett Group hotels, the new properties will target both business and leisure travelers. “There is a lot of pent-up demand, especially in the smaller cities and towns, and we want to aggressively capitalize on that demand,” said Sarbendra Sarkar, MD & Founder Cygnett Hotels & Resorts.

Speaking about the growth opportunities in India, Sarkar said, “We believe that the disruption created by the COVID-19 pandemic is now behind us and people have begun traveling again. The economy is steadily coming back on track and therefore the demand is accelerating, especially in non-metro cities.”

Pointing out that occupancy rates in Cygnett Group hotels have been going up for the past few months, Mr. Sarkar said that recovery in the hospitality sector has been faster than expected after the devastation caused by the pandemic.

Sarkar added that Cygnett properties are currently running at 70% occupancy as against India's average of 52% occupancy. He also highlighted the challenge of a declining Average Daily Rate (ADR). “ADR has gone down by 30% this season. That’s a little worrying for the industry,”  Sarkar said, adding that it would take another 8-10 months for the ADR to up to the pre-pandemic levels.

The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is on track to open by 2025, authorities in the emirate have confirmed. Facing numerous delays over the years, the museum was first announced in 2006.

Joining a collection of Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation museums, including arguably the most famous in Manhattan, the Abu Dhabi museum has been designed by Frank Gehry. When it opens, it will present a range of global modern and contemporary art pieces, with a specific focus on West Asia, North Africa and South Asia.

Gehry commented: “It is truly thrilling to see this project enter into this new phase. I am immensely proud to work closely with our partners, DCT Abu Dhabi and the Solomon R. The outdoor seating area is lined with tropical landscape along its periphery and a gigantic photo-opportunity in the form of a street art mural, curated by local talent, set alongside the outdoor bar.

The indoor section boasts of a stunning bar counter on a raised platform, and a striking ceiling that needs a special mention since the same has been meticulously crafted with a combination of coffers and metal baffles – which add immense character to the overall energy of the space. There exists a 4,000 Sq Ft of fully air-conditioned indoor space with a sizable podium at the nucleus of the space to house live performances on one side, and an exciting combination of a cafe format of Hard Rock, known as Constant Grind, along with a Rock Shop on the other side. The Constant Grind, a coffee-shop by Hard Rock International, will open its second exclusive shop ever at Hard Rock Cafe Hitech City. New Opening | Porsche Design Hotel could open in Dubai soon

Deutsche Hospitality CEO Marcus Bernhardt discusses the new Steigenberger Porsche Design Hotels brand

Porsche could soon have their name on the side of a hotel in Dubai. Following the launch of Steigenberger Porsche Design Hotels in July, we caught up with Deutsche Hospitality CEO Marcus Bernhardt.

Steigenberger is hotel group’s flagship brand, and Bernhardt says the two companies are already eyeing Middle East markets for their modern hotel brand.

He said: “Our latest announcement was the collaboration with Porsche Design and we’re already looking into that for Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar… Really these are the areas.

“The feedback has been tremendous so far, even from Porsche drivers. They think it’s great. We’re seeing guests head in a new direction, lifestyle is more important than ever. Traditional hotels are good, but the digital natives want somewhere else.”

Porsche Design is known for its range of high-end luggage, timepieces, electronics, eyewear and clothing, which are inspired by sports cars. The new hotel brand will follow the same standards of luxury and craftsmanship.


So how does Porsche’s automotive craftsmanship translate over to hotels exactly? The CEO explained: “We have joined forces and we’ve gained access to Porsche’s high level of product development. We will make sure any of these hotels will have the highest levels of quality. The quality of the product will be equal to that seen in Porsche cars, not only in terms of materials used but also the technology being deployed. We’re really going a step ahead on this, they’ll be fancy hotels certainly but also elegant.
