Karnataka Wine Board to integrate wine tours into popular package tours

KWB MD says, the role of the board is well-defined in the new Karnataka Tourism Policy as far as promoting gastronomic tourism packages and wine tourism in the country was concerned.

The Karnataka Wine Board (KWB), the only dedicated wine board in any state of the country, will try to integrate vineyard visits into popular tour packages operated by the Karnataka Tourism Development Corporation, as part of its marketing and promotion activities.

According to Somu T, managing director of KWB, the role of the board is well-defined in the new Karnataka Tourism Policy as far as promoting gastronomic tourism packages and wine tourism in the country was concerned.

Somu said that the state has huge untapped potential for wine tourism which is largely unexplored so far. Citing the kind of tourism revenues that wine regions like the Napa Valley of California generate, which far exceeds the revenue from the production and marketing of their wines, Somu said that the attempt of the KWB is also to make wine tourism a key activity of the Board.

Sarvesh Kumar, general manager of the KWB said that they are encouraging wine tours, an important aspect of the package tours which KTDC operate between Bengaluru - Mysore, Bengaluru - Hampi; Bengaluru - Nandi Hills, Bengaluru - Tirupati, among others.

He said that a lot of foreign tourists visit the heritage centres of the State like Hampi and Badami and there are a number of vineyards around these destinations which can be integrated into the packages.

While Big Banyan Tree winery near Bengaluru offers accommodation facilities, Kumar said that a lot of wineries like Sula and Grover offer day tours.

The KWB officials said that the effort of the board is to expand the grape cultivation to non-traditional areas like Sakleshpur in the Western Ghats.

KWB participated in the maiden VinExpo, a wine and spirit expo, in Delhi which concluded last week.

Brand | Prasuma Momos to expand to 140 cities by Mar 2022

Over the next five years, the ready-to-eat momo brand is eying revenues to the tune of INR 350 to 400 crore.

Prasuma Momos is gearing up to expand its presence to 140 cities by March 2022 and then to 200 cities by the end of next year. Their signature momos are currently available across 2,500 stores and the company plans to increase it to 25,000 stores in the next two years.

Prasuma Momos has witnessed incremental growth in sales on a month-on-month basis backed by its diversification into new geographies and the launch of newer product variants. The company is further planning to strengthen its product portfolio with the launch of new variants of veg and non-veg Momos.

“We are set to launch three new Momos next month including Cheesy Spicy Veg, Mutton, and Desi Chicken. Each of our variants can be traced back to a cherished family recipe or a cherished memory. For instance, our new Desi Mutton Momos are based on recipes from the tranquil hills of India, bursting with spicy mustard oil and more,” Lisa Suwal, CGO (Chief Growth Officer) of Prasuma said

One of her milestone social projects is the Ananth Centre for Learning and Development - a special school & training centre for the differently-abled; where she currently presides as Managing Trustee.  

In the coming years, Seema sees a great future for brands in the functional food space. She hopes to utilize the market’s interest in the category to develop quality products and build awareness on how healthy and tasty can be one and the same. She further wishes to build  Nourish Organics to be a brand that transforms the consumer’s relationship with healthy eating. Elon Musk is gearing up to launch his own drive-in food chain at Supercharger locations as his electric car company Tesla has applied for a new trademark for its brand under restaurant services.

According to a report in Electrek, the company has applied for three new trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office that will cover the categories of "Restaurant services, pop-up restaurant services, self-service restaurant services, take-out restaurant services".

"The application is awaiting examination and will be reviewed by an attorney around August 27," the report said on Tuesday.

Tesla's iconic 'T' logo is featured on the application, to be trademarked for use by its branded restaurants.

Way back in 2017, then Tesla CTO JB Straubel had said that the company might move into the restaurant business.

In 2018, Musk said in a tweet: "Gonna put an old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in LA".

A few months later, Tesla applied for building permits for -- restaurant and Supercharger station -- at a location in Santa Monica in the US.

The project went into cold storage for about three years and now, a new building application has been submitted earlier this year.

The new development probably means that the company plans for a 'Tesla' branded restaurant chain.

With more than 25,000 Superchargers, Tesla owns and operates the largest global, fast charging network in the world, located on major routes near convenient amenities.

The brand is excited to have collaborated with Salawara Estate as its new partner farm this year. Salawara literally means “a string of blessings”. Located in the lush foothills of India’s Western Ghats near Sakleshpur in Belur region, this estate is spread over 145 hectares. Established by the Britishers in the late 1880s. The coffee crop from the Salawara estate is successfully inter-cropped with pepper, Areca nut, oranges, and silver oak trees which brings in the perfect balance of richness and heritage. The two variants of Salwara Estate Coffee available at Roastery Coffee are “Yeast Fermented” in Tasting Notes of Apple, Sugarcane and Green Apple and “Carbonic Marceration” in Tasting Notes of Candied Apple, Tangerine and Hibiscus.

The other newly launched coffee by Roastery Coffee is the wild-grown coffee from the Tribe-O-Project. Tribe-O Koraput Coffee is unique for being semi-wild, growing in the forests of Koraput, Odisha at 1000 MSL, instead of well-organized estates or plots of land. It is grown in the forested hills of Koraput, where the tribal farmers do not own the forest land but have permission to harvest the coffee cherries from it. The forests where the coffee plants grow are dense and the plants grow far apart from another in the natural foliage. This makes it challenging to pick the ripe coffee cherries and the process is slow and laborious. Tribe-O Koraput Coffee farming is an agricultural activity carried out mostly by the women in the tribal villages of Koraput.  The brand is proud to be a part of Tribe-O-Project’s journey to make coffee farming more commercially relevant to the indigenous peoples of Koraput, while retaining their age-old tradition of living in harmony with nature. With notes of Gooseberry, Cacao and Black Tea, the coffee has a unique and interesting flavor.
