Two out of Three Indian Travelers Can’t Get Enough of Their Favorite Destination - Agoda Survey Reveals

New Delhi, August 2024 – It turns out that one trip to destinations like Thailand and Vietnam just isn’t enough for most travelers. Agoda’s latest Return Visitor Ranking reveals that 67% of Indian travelers return to their favorite destinations. The ranking, which was compiled from a survey conducted on the Agoda platform earlier this month, shows Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia are leading the pack as the ultimate hotspots for returning visitors from India, followed by Singapore and France.

Agoda surveyed travelers who just booked a new trip to their favorite destination. The largest group of respondents from India (42%) cited ‘Adventure’ as the main purpose for their upcoming trip. 22% is traveling for ‘Food’, while ‘Arts and Culture’ and ‘Reuniting with Family/Friends’ were both mentioned by 20% of respondents.

58% of repeat travelers have visited their favorite destination between 1-3 times in the past decade, making up the largest chunk of repeat visitors. 4% of travelers have even visited their favorite destination ten times or more.

When asked what makes their favorite markets so irresistible, ‘Local Cuisine’, ‘Ease of Travel’, and ‘Affordability’ were all frequently mentioned by Indian travelers. Additionally, three out of ten Indian travelers cited ‘Friendly Locals’ as an important motivator to return.

From an Asia-wide perspective, the survey highlights Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam as the top destinations that Asian travelers can’t get enough of. ‘Ease of Travel’ emerged on top as the key travel motivator, with 44% of Asian travelers listing this as the primary reason for returning to their favorite destinations.

The World Avocado Organisation Launches a Consumer Education Campaign to promote avocados’ nutritional and health benefits in India

New Delhi, August, 2024: The World Avocado Organization (WAO) a non-profit organization which represents producers, exporters and importers of avocados from across the world, was set up in 2016 to promote avocado consumption and the health benefits of the world's favourite superfood.


After the extremely successful push in 2023, WAO has now launched its 2024 campaign in India to educate consumers and food businesses about the health benefits of regular avocado consumption and how to best use this fruit in varied Indian cuisines.  

The 2024 WAO campaign in India is majorly supported by growers from South Africa, a leading exporter of avocados. South African avocados were granted access by India earlier this year.

India, August 2024:   Aotearoa New Zealand, which sits comfortably near the bottom of the world, often beyond the usual routes of The Michelin Guide, has decided to take matters into its own hands.

In a breathtaking culinary showcase, leading New Zealand chef Ben Bayly has produced a one-of-a-kind restaurant experience for 50 international tastemakers under the star-embellished skies of Kura Tawhiti (Castle Hill) at the foothills of the Southern Alps in New Zealand’s South Island. “Why be satisfied with a Michelin Star, when you can cook under 2.5 billion of them?” asks Bayly.

Invited guests from India like Chef Saransh Goila and adventure travel content creator Aakash Malhotra were in attendance alongside tastemakers from Australia, China, Japan, North America, United Kingdom, Germany Singapore and South Korea  to sample the destination's spectacular dark skies and bespoke, six-course degustation menu. Meticulously constructed using the finest winter produce and native ingredients, the bill of fare celebrated the breadth of ingredients available to manuhiri (visitors) throughout New Zealand.

The event was timed to take place in New Zealand’s winter to best showcase its unparalleled night skies, showcasing celestial wonders such as the Southern Lights (Aurora Australis) and The Milky Way. For keen stargazers, autumn and winter’s longer nights are often coined as the best time to witness the exceptionally clear night skies of New Zealand.

René de Monchy, Chief Executive of Tourism New Zealand, shared his view on the omission: “We’re used to New Zealand being left off the list. First, it was world maps and now it’s the Michelin Guide, so we’re happy to take matters into our own hands. Our night skies are world famous, rightly so - but our cuisine is also worthy of a star or three.”

The restaurant’s name, Pou-o-Kai was gifted to the restaurant by Ngāi Tuāhuriri, local tangata whenua (people of the land) in an ode to the eagle that used to soar the pristine skies of the Kura Tawhiti (Castle Hill, South Island) region. Spelt Pou-o-Kai, it loosely translates to a place of kai (food) or a post/table of kai.  Pou symbolises connection to place and people, o is of, and kai is food.

The definition of a three-star restaurant in the Michelin Guide means “exceptional cuisine, worthy of a special journey,” explains chef Ben Bayly.  “We think that New Zealand cuisine is in a category of its own – we call it superior cuisine, worth a journey to the edge of the earth.”

Ben Bayly will rotate select dishes from the menu across his New Zealand restaurants (Ahi, Aosta, Origine, Little Aosta, The Bathhouse) in Auckland, Queenstown and Arrowtown through to August 2025.

Raises Concern Over Being Held Accountable For Accidents Caused By Inebriated Patrons; Discusses Topical Industry Subjects

Mumbai, August : The hotel and restaurant industry raised concerns over being held accountable for drunk driving accidents caused by patrons at the recently concluded Empowering Hospitality Conclave & Awards hosted by the Hotel and Restaurant Association (Western India) – HRAWI at Hotel Center Point in Nagpur on July 26, 2024. Besides discussing topical issues, the conclave featured presentations by subject matter experts on the new Maharashtra Tourism Policy 2024, Cybersecurity essentials, Technology for enhancing guest experiences, and skill training sessions on subjects such as fire safety and pest management.

 

Delving into the growing trend of restaurateurs being held responsible for accidents caused by intoxicated patrons, the industry sought guidelines from industry stalwarts, policymakers, and law enforcers participating in the conclave. “The hotel and restaurant industry remains committed to responsible alcohol service and adherence to guidelines. Wherever we are wrong, we are happy to be corrected. However, lately, the restaurant industry has been feeling the full might of enforcement despite operating within the framework of the law. A guest consumes alcohol in a restaurant, causes an accident outside, and the restaurant gets blamed. Shopkeepers who sell knives don’t get held accountable for crimes committed with those items, but licensed restaurateurs have recently been prosecuted for crimes committed by customers. The industry seeks guidance on what regulations it should follow to avoid prosecution for incidents that occur outside its premises," stated Mr. Pradeep Shetty, President, HRAWI.

He noted the previous policy lacked cash incentives. The new policy also includes a 15% subsidy for other tourism facilities with a cap of ₹15 crores. Shah highlighted additional fiscal benefits in Vidarbha, such as 100% SGST refunds and interest subvention on loans. “This policy will be a game changer, generating substantial employment and attracting significant investment to Maharashtra,” he added. Pride Hotels Group announced the completion of its D.R.E.A.M Program 2.0, which has welcomed a new group of management trainees into this esteemed initiative. This year, the program achieved a remarkable milestone, with 50% of its management trainees being women, reinforcing the organization's commitment to diversity and inclusivity. The program commenced with an engaging three-day orientation at Pride Plaza Ahmedabad

The three-day orientation program, featured welcome sessions led by Shailendra Dharme, Head of Corporate Learning & Development, and Jayesh Wadher, Head of Corporate Talent & Culture. The D.R.E.A.M (Determine Refined Excellence for Aspiring Managers) Program is specifically designed to offer exceptional career opportunities to aspiring associates interested in the Management Trainee (MT) and Hospitality Operations Trainee (HOT) Program at Pride Hotels Group. The initiative aims to equip candidates with a comprehensive understanding of the theories and operational processes that are vital for the growth and development of the hospitality industry, preparing them to become future leaders. Upon successful completion of the program, candidates will have the opportunity to advance to Assistant Manager or Executive positions within the organization.
