Exclusive Interview | Prasuk Jain, Founder and Managing Director of Amazonia
How are you feeling about reaching this milestone?
Opening my restaurants has been a whirlwind of emotions - disbelief, excitement, and immense gratitude. Seeing my vision come to life and people truly enjoying the space and food is incredibly rewarding. It’s a reminder that the countless hours of planning and tireless effort were worth it.
What initially inspired you to open your restaurant? The story behind it? Can you please let us know who are your culinary heroes or role models in the industry?
The spark truly came during my visit to the Amazonian rainforest in Brazil. It’s such a vibrant and diverse ecosystem, and I wanted to create a restaurant that could capture its essence. I also wanted to challenge the traditional fine dining experience. I believe that dining should be more than just about the food; it should be an adventure for all the senses.
Arjun Waney and Danny Meyer, I admire them the most. Arjun and Danny are more than just restaurateurs – they’re architects of experiences. Arjun’s emphasis on community building through food is exceptional, while Danny’s commitment to the welfare of both guests and staff has revolutionized hospitality. They’re constant sources of inspiration for me as I build my own culinary endeavour.
Can you share a brief background about yourself and your journey in the restaurant industry?
My journey in the restaurant and entertainment industry began in 2012 with the launch of Snow World at Phoenix Marketcity Kurla in Mumbai. Over the years, I’ve ventured into diverse projects such as Snow World, The Game, XOXO – The Casual Lounge, Pink Wasabi, and now, Amazonia. My vision is to create novel entertainment and dining experiences that elevate consumer satisfaction. With plans for expansive growth and upcoming projects, I'm committed to shaping the future of the industry.
Has the community around your restaurant grown significantly? If so how have you accomplished this?
Building a strong community has been a top priority. We actively engage with local residents, partner with other businesses, and host events that reflect the spirit and the vibe of the restaurant. This interaction fosters a sense of belonging and keeps people coming back for more than just the food.
Were there any unexpected challenges you faced during your first year, and how did you overcome them?
Undoubtedly, the first year presented unforeseen challenges, as any venture does. Adapting to dynamic market conditions, feedback, and evolving consumer preferences were crucial. We embraced a flexible approach, listened to our patrons, and refined our offerings. This resilience helped us overcome initial hurdles and shape Amazonia into the thriving establishment it is today.
How do you envision the future of Amazonia? Are there any upcoming expansion plans that you can share with us?
My vision for the future of Amazonia is one where we continue to push the boundaries of immersive dining experiences. I see us exploring new culinary landscapes, incorporating cutting-edge technology, and fostering even deeper connections with our community.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking to open their own restaurant?
Passion is your fuel, but preparation is your compass. Have a clear concept, a solid business plan, and a team you can trust. Be ready to work hard, embrace challenges, and most importantly, never lose sight of the joy of creating memorable experiences for people through food.
